Breast cancer Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1
Breast cancer - Assignment Example The researchers observed the mutation 185delAG in 0.9% of Ashkenazim 95% limit in confidence was between 0.4%- 1.8% and there was none in the reference samples. The results led to the determination of the above number (Saunders 14). After a gene test, people are more aware of their fates thus they will tend to protect themselves more. As it is said ââ¬Å"it is better to protection than to cureâ⬠in the cases of cancer many will prefer to protect themselves from the causative rather than wait so as to treat the defect later (Halyard 8). Ethically the Jews observed this testing genetic discrimination, there have been a long debate over the issue whereby many Jews think that this is wrong. Religiously Jews thinks that this is wrong genetic testing to them occurs as a mockery to the natural science of God, they believe that no one should tamper with the genetic makeup of a person (Saunders 15). It assists in the pre-symptomatic testing for the developing Huntingtonââ¬â¢s disease and adult-onset cancers prediction. It also aids in the estimation of the risk in developing Alzheimerââ¬â¢s disease and the adult-onset cancers (Saunders 16). The risk associated is normally associated both emotionally, financially or socially based on the results of the test. People will tend to be angry, anxious, guilty or depressed about their results (Saunders 17). The negative impact associated with genetic testing has lead to the recognition that is increasing. In some instances, genetic testing will lead to tension within family members because the results might reveal a familyââ¬â¢s information on another individual related to the one been tested (Halyard 15). Mutation of BRCA2 and other genes might also lead to an inherited cancer of the breast. These genes include, the ATM which repairs damaged DNA, TP53 which aids in the production of a protein known as p53, CHEK2, PTEN, CDH1 and STK11 (Halyard 17). According to research done by scientists and doctors, the Jewish men tend to be

Explore Canadian cultural developments and further examine those which would impact the investment plans of a German-based luxury car manufacturer - Essay Example However, the countryââ¬â¢s recent economic prosperity and the ability to be at par with the competitive world are some affirmations of this conservatism. According to Bill Currie, Deloitteââ¬â¢s chair, the Canadians feel they are good and do not need to take risks that are not comfortable with them. In a report produced by Deloitte Company, uncertainty and risk were noted as the greatest obstacles to the Canadian business owners. In addition, other Canadian business leaders claim that the high cost of labour is the primary cause that is restraining their capabilities to invest in research and development (OVSEY, 2012). According to OVSEY (2012), Prof Peridis disagrees with their claims noting that the Germans despite their high labour costs can still sell their products. They produce knowledge-intensive products and adds that a culture of modesty cannot be changed overnight. Thus, for Canada to become a serious contributor to the business globe, it needs time to change that conservative culture. Audi is among the top luxury car producing company in Germany. The Audi manufacturers are known for their numerous innovations in the automotive industry. For this reason, Audi can be termed as a risk taker in the global business world due to their willingness to venture their business worldwide. Furthermore, plans to invest globally in the Chinese and American markets are underway by the Audi automobile company. These plans were triggered by the developments in both countries and the need to sell their products worldwide to develop economically (BOUDETTE, 2014). Despite the facts that Canadian companies are conservative and do not love innovation, the Canadian country can be a good market for the Audi to sell their cars. As well, this is because the locally based companies are very reluctant in innovating anything new. As a result, Canadians may be willing to break the monotony in their countries and try to import

Muckrakers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Muckrakers - Essay Example According to McQuail (2000), the media play a watchdog role in society and they should expose all the public officials who abuse their office. These people should be accountable for their actions to the people they represent in government in particular. To that effect, I think all matters of public interested should be thoroughly investigated. However, I believe that if the muckraker has to resort to using the tactics of the one whom they are trying to expose, then the pursuit has gone too far. The other aspect is that this would be tantamount to invasion of privacy. There are certain muckrakers who go deep down into other individualsââ¬â¢ private lives and I think this practice is not good. Every individual is entitled to privacy and this right should not be violated. Though good, muckraking should focus on issues of public interest such as abuse of office by politicians and other public officials instead of concentrating on individualsââ¬â¢ private

Research project - what are the effects of multiple losses on children Essay
Research project - what are the effects of multiple losses on children with special reference to Looked After Children - Essay Example nge of background situations such as abuse, domestic violence, marital breakdown, imprisonment of a parent, poverty and mental illness of a parent and death of one or both parents, that can lead to a child becoming looked after (Richardson and Joughin, 2000, pp.3-4). When these factors are combined, multiple losses occur (Goldman, 2001, pp.28). These multiple losses include, loss of parental care, economic security, and emotional security (Goldman, 2001, pp.28-39). The literature has been found to show many omissions regarding how to tackle the issues of children suffering from multiple losses. These include, strategies that could be used to respond to the needs of LAC experiencing multiple losses in order to minimise its impact on them. The real impact of multiple losses has also been underexplored. To fill the lacunae left by the reviewed literature, a hypothetical research proposal to carry out a primary research ââ¬Ëexploring the factors that contribute to multiple losses in looked after children and identify the strategies to help these children cope with these losses is put forth in the fourth chapter. This study envisages to apply a qualitative approach enabled by a semi-structured approach to data collection. The sampling method will be purposive and 25 looked after children living in different types of care institutions, who have suffered multiple losses will be interviewed. This project will be an attempt to look into the topic of multiple losses and the effects that these have upon children ââ¬â paying special attention to the issue of ââ¬ËLooked After Childrenââ¬â¢. One definition of loss is that ââ¬Å"a loss event is anything that causesâ⬠¦.harm, excessive risk, inadequate quality and excessive costsâ⬠(Latino, pp.45). Hooyman and Kramer stated that, ââ¬Å"lossesâ⬠¦. always result in deprivation of some kind; in essence, we no longer have someone or something that we used to haveâ⬠(2006, pp.2). Additionally, the reason why loss matters so much is that

This approach was at par with the growing use of data within the social sphere as well as the business environment of various corporate entities. The aim of the network and data provision service was to challenge existing companies and business rivals into developing a competitive approach into business to ensure standards were improved while at the same time making use of innovation to provide customers with relevant and sustainable service. Additionally, the company is innovation oriented and through the adaption of technologies such as the framework of the M40, the company aims at constructing a competitive advantage for the survival of its business mission and operations sustainability within a competitive contemporary e nvironment. While the strategies of most companies within the active global markets are analyzed with reference and respect to their financial capability, the operations of Juniper are considered in a timeline approach to showcase how time as a resource, innovation as a strategy, and competition as a motivation combine to strengthen and sustain the company over years of active business participation. With reference to the very first production that the company invented, the M40 router, the company aimed at providing North American region with network infrastructure that surpassed the then available technologies. In 2000 towards mid-September, Juniper provided the market with its first full-performance routers under the brand name MSeries Multiservice Edge routers. In 2001, the company was at it again improving its own business competitiveness by providing the market with routers integrated with XML instrumentation considering the technological solution, IPv6. Network and Internet Security Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Network and Internet Security - Essay Example This technique ensures that there is only one key which will be used ââ¬â that is a secret key. Asymmetric encryption (Public key encryption) - requires the use of a two keys where one is a private key and the other is a public key which is known to a number of people. With that, these two keys (public and private keys) are used interchangeable to encrypt and decrypt messages. Hybrid encryption (single key and public key) ââ¬â this technique used both the symmetric and asymmetric encryption techniques. It is important to note that, modern systems have been designed to be dynamic in terms of the encryption technique (s) that they are using. As a result; they can use both the symmetric and asymmetric encryption techniques interchangeably. Encryption by a shared secret: As the name suggests, two hosts can be in a position to exchange information through the use of a shared secret and/ or a secret key. This mechanism is characterised by the fact that the shared secret key is used to encrypt both the senders and the recipientââ¬â¢s messages. Based on that, this channel faces very high security risks since if the message is tapped or eavesdropped, the attacker can be in a position to use the shared secret key to either encrypt or decrypt the entire conversation. Based on that, data security is highly compromised. The other challenge faced with the shared secret key encryption is the fact that the higher the messages that are being sent on the communication channel by the hosts, their corresponding keys will also be increased. As a result, there will be too many keys being shared. Thirdly, due to the fact that it is a shared key, if the senderââ¬â¢s key is not known, decrypting the... Sessions keys are implemented using the following process description: If Host A, B and C want to communicate to each other; they have to set up an encrypted link among themselves. With that, if Host A wants to send an encrypted message to B and C, then A will have to provide its key that will be used by B and C in a bid to decrypt the ciphered message. This key exchange process requires the availability of a Key Distribution Centre (KDC) that is used to store the shared session keys. It is worthy to note that, this scheme totally depends on the KDC and if the KDC encounters any problems, then that will compromise on data security. With that stated, below are some of the challenges that may be faced by the KDC. First, if the KDC fails to store the session keys, then the hosts will not be in a position to encrypt and decrypt the messages. Secondly, if the number of keys grows then there is a need for a scalable KDC else it will fail to provide the keys. Thirdly, the KDC is not used fo r connection fewer protocols. Fourth, transporting the keys physically can be tedious. The above encryption techniques can be used in the following protocols and/ or products: Kerberos V4, Kerberos V5 and Secure Socket Layer (SSL). Kerberos is a network authentication protocol that is used in a bid to provide security for both the client and the server through the use of the secret-key cryptography. Kerberos also depends entirely on the KDC so as to ensure secure communication between the hosts.
Probation and Parole- More Than a Way of Getting Criminals out of Research Paper
Probation and Parole- More Than a Way of Getting Criminals out of Prison - Research Paper Example In recent years there has been a problem in the United States of the prison population rapidly growing, which has been causing financial problems as well as issues with finding the space to incarcerate the criminals . As a consequence, there has been a trend towards probation and parole as methods of getting criminals out of prison earlier and back in society. In addition to reducing prison population, it is thought that this may also help the individuals to successfully rehabilitate into society, reducing their rate of recidivism. Although studies indicate that the success of probation and parole may be limited, the process nevertheless appears to be effective for some individuals, and there are processes that can be undertaken to increase this effectiveness. Prevalence of Probation/Parole Parole and probation are widely used as means of justice, and these are often considered to be community corrections. Probation is part of the sentence that is initially handed from the judge when following a trial. It can occur in addition to or instead of time in prison. Parole occurs when an inmate is conditionally released from prison after serving all or a part of his sentence. In both cases the individual is under a set of conditions, such as they are not allowed t associate with certain individuals, cannot commit crimes or visit certain locations. If the individual breaks these conditions, then they are subject to imprisonment. In many cases the offenderââ¬â¢s attendance to these conditions is determined by their supervision by a parole or probation officer. The number of individuals under community correction at any given time is high, much higher than that of the prison population. For example, in 2003, there were around 2.1 million adults incarcerated, but approximately 4.8 million undergoing either parole or probation . These numbers were not unique to that year, but instead represent the general trend . There is no unified system for probation and parole acros s states. Instead each state has their own guidelines and laws surrounding the circumstances in which criminals are eligible, the length, restrictions that are placed on the individual and other factors . Because of this, the manner in which individual supervisors treat those they are in charge of differs significantly between different people, cities and states . The recent changes in sentencing laws have resulted in an increase in the number of people who are receiving community corrections . It is likely that any solution to the problem of high numbers of incarcerated inmates will result in increases to the number of people under probation and parole . This will result in an increased workload for those involved in supervision of offenders. The power of officers has increased significantly in recent times. Currently many parole and probation officers are able to carry weapons, as well as administer drug tests to determine whether the offender is remaining drug free . Effectivenes s One of the key roles of probation and parole is to reduce the rate of criminals reoffending. This is an important issue, as more than two thirds of released prisoners have been found to reoffend within three years of their release . Studies have shown that while probation and parole can be effective as a method of sentencing for many individuals, the rate of recidivism remains very high . One factor that limits the effectiveness of probation is the fact that a large number of people on probation and par
